Grade 1 Author´s Party
Thursday, March 21st, 2013
Our school is filled with terrific authors! After talking by Skype with a friend of Ms. Jackson in the US, students in 1A have been working especially hard on strategies for editing and reviewing their own writing. After implementing important strategies, the students were ready to show-off and share their work with students from 4B. The 4B readers listened to and read the stories produced by our Grade 1 students, and complimented them on what a great job they had done, and how fluent their writing had become. Once again, we proved that in Colegio Panamericano we play together, learn together, and live together every day.

Grade 2 Author´s Party
Friday, March 15th, 2013
Students in Grade 2 have been working very hard on their writing skills. Through the mini-lessons taught within Daily 5, centered on Lucy Calkins´ Units of Writing, the students have developed themes, examined characters, practiced editing and revising skills, and produced incredible pieces of writing. On Friday, it was time for us to share their pride. Parents were invited to school to discover and enjoy the products of the Grade 2 writing units, and share the results of their children´s hard work (as well as sharing some healthy snacks!)
Congratulations to our Grade 2 authors, and a special thank you to Grade 2 parents for sharing this special moment with us.

Storytelling: Bringing positive values to life through imagination and presentation
Tuesday, February 19th, 2013
Students in 1A today were visited by a guest storyteller. Mr. Gerardo demonstrated his dramatic abilities and shared a story with students that was routed in Colombian culture and strong values. Students had the opportunity to watch literacy in action, as Mr. Gerardo set the scene and then took them on a literary journey.

Lower Elementary Students Paint, Plant, and Grow!
Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013
Thanks to help from Sra. Edna María Jiménez and FranjaVerde, our Lower Elementary students had the opportunity to be artists and botanists. All students were able to decorate their own pot, and then use it to properly plant a flower seed which they will then take care of until it´s time to blossom. Students are able to create special connections with the new flowers they are producing, and understand the responsibility and enjoyment that comes with creative gardening.
Thank you to Ms. Kendall for organizing the program for all Gr.1 and Gr.2 students, and to Sra. Jiménez and her team for helping us with this great activity.

The Lower Elementary Cheese-Making Factory
Friday, January 18th,
Happy 2013 -- Welcome back to school!
Elementary students have started the new year in a productive way. This week, Lower Elementary students used milk, salt, vinegar, and great listening skills to make their very own cheese! With their classroom teachers and teaching assistants, the students carefully followed the instructions for the process and the final result was a delicious, creamy cheese which made an excellent topping for crackers.

1A Bell Work
Thursday, November 8th
All ES students start their day with 10 minutes dedicated to "Bell Work". During Bell Work the students are given a short task to get their brains warmed up for the academic activities of the day. Today I was able to visit 1A as they completed a short Math question independently before beginning their Morning Meeting. The students needed to read the question on the white board, draw a diagram to show they understood the process, and solve the question. I was very happy to see students demonstrating strong attention skills and effective steps of the problem solving process.
After completing Bell Work the students began their Morning Meeting by dancing, greeting each other in pairs, and sharing special information about themselves. Congratulations for such a positive environment!
